This article, first published in the 2007 Machine Cancel Forum, details the history of John W. Milam and Samuel B. Holmes and the mail cancelling machine they developed. Examples of this machine are rare, and include usages during the Spanish-American War (Lytle, Georgia), and Cincinatti, Ohio. Every attempt is made to illustrate the known examples, and to solicit new finds. The article includes much background material on the training camp near Lytle.
